Even with Halloween over, we can’t seem to turn the hat back into a balaclava.

Wool Coat

This was supppsed to be Reuben’s coat but someone else picked the material first.  Oh well, at least he could try it on and pose for me.

Bees and cabbages

I suppose i didn’t think much about what to use the fabric for when i designed it.

I tried the bees out on an evelope tee for Reuben: 
And the blue cabbages was given to one of his young (gardening) friends:
Since  i had initially designed the cabbages larger and with more space (but didn’t like that for a toddler shirt), i used the first fabric for underwear – why not blue cabbage briefs? 
The middle fabric is another Spoonflower design (which actually started out as a swap poster) and the bottom fabric is from an old silk knit nightshirt that had gotten too small for me.

Denim

I got holes in the knees of my jeans.  So i cut them up and made new pants for Roo. 

 

New pattern

Finally drafted a sewing pattern for the envelope neck wool tees.  Here’s Rubesy sporting the short and long-sleeved versions:  

  
 

Warm toes

Reuben has his own sheepskin slippers now, no hand-me-downs.  

Warmer

It is December 17 and 5 degrees.  We don’t really need to be warmer.  But Reuben is happy in his new (larger) sleep sack

New terrain

I have some new felted material to experiment with, the results of a botched felting project.  It’s cobweb felt and i plan to combine it with vintage blanket scraps to make playscapes of different habitats.  

Originally, i intended this fabric – together with dyed silk organza – as a nuno felted dress.  That was my first flaw, the idea itself.  Then i mixed too many shades of blues and greens. 

The result was a little too camo-looking.  
 

I gave up on the dress.

Instead, i managed to tear the wool off the silk.  I hope to rebuild it into two separate playmats, one oceanic and perhaps the other similar to my first. This is my inspiration.  That mat is pure brilliance – just look at that mini vegetable garden!

Mine won’t be knitted and it won’t be truly felted (i plan on sewing these together) but Reuben has already given me enough indication that it’s play worthy.
