Catch up

I’m getting further behind on items to post.  Sometimes I don’t get past the idea to do it, but more often I come across one or two in the smattering of photos I have and am reminded.

Here’s a Christmas gift for the boys, made from a Spoonflower template

DIY kids gifts

It’s tricky to find gifts to make that kids will actually like and use.  Here’s a couple that worked this Christmas.

  Idea found here.

Instructions found here for modifying fleece mittens – i made them in wool instead.

Another hat mishap

This one is almost as good as the last one. First off, it was a Christmas gift. Well, you might be aware that it’s nearly February. Secondly, i delayed in buying an additional ball of wool until after i started decreasing. I thought i could do it with one…at $18/ball i wish i had. Too late (aka stubborn) to go back i continued with 2 inches in single ribbing rather than the double i’d done so far.
After it all, the hat really didn’t fit the recipient well and i’m resigned to keeping it. At least when i’m wearing it i can’t see the mistakes as well as if Brett was.
(And i thought ribbing would avoid sizing the concerns of a felted one)

handsewn gifts

(finished legwarmers)

(leftovers from three wool hempjes made for a niece and two nephews)

I was also trying to finish a ribbed hat before the knitting went awol at a family reunion. And i’m still contemplating a wool table runner in tonal reds. (Yes, i do know Christmas has past.)

A Slow Start

January is a satisfying expanse of time that too quickly fills up.
I spent the holidays picking up a few old projects and starting some new ones.
A dragon towel for Eily and one for his cousin:
Learning intarsia for the cardinal motif on E’s hoodie:

A second roller blind, this one went much more smoothly:

And, at the quilt shop, E requested a needle felted elephant like he saw in a book. It’s a tiny little thing named (oddly enough, considering his natural habitat), Snowy:
